Pitt's Ronald Ramon, Gilbert Brown and Gary McGhee sit in a subdued locker room after the Panthers' season-ending loss last night in Denver.
A tourney filled with high expectations for the Pitt Panthers came to an end Saturday night, when they lost to the 5th seeded Michigan St. Spartans 65-54. The Panthers who had been on fire since the Big East tourney, went ice cold shooting 32.7% from the field and shot a disgusting 2-17 from behind the arc. The Spartans took advantage of the Panthers bad shooting especially Drew Neitzel who couldn't seem to buy a basket in the first round game against Temple. This game kinda summed up the year for Pitt, showing that it had been a tale of two seasons. The games against Duke and in the Big East tourney had you thinking "How can anyone stop them." But the games against Marquette and Dayton had you scratching your head. Looking ahead to next year, a big part as to how the Panthers will do depends on whether junior Sam Young decides to return. Right now he is a mid to late 2nd round pick, which means no guaranteed money, so my prediction is that he will be back in uniform for the Panthers next year.
